How frame sizes work
A frame is named after the artwork it holds, not its outside size. An 8x10 frame holds an 8x10 inch print, edge to edge. If you want a border around your print, add a mat: the mat fills the frame and has a smaller window cut in the middle. That is why an 8x10 photo is often framed in an 11x14 frame with a mat. The wood adds to the outside, so always plan your wall with the outside measurement.

Which frame for my print?
Pick the frame that matches your print for a clean, full look, or go one size up with the standard mat for a gallery-style border.
5x7 print: a 5x7 frame, or an 8x10 frame with the standard mat.
8x10 print: an 8x10 frame, or an 11x14 frame with the standard mat.
8x12 print: an 11x17 or 12x16 frame with the standard mat.
11x14 print: an 11x14 frame, or a 16x20 frame with the standard mat.
14x18 print: an 18x24 frame with the standard mat.
16x20 print: a 16x20 frame, or a 20x24 frame with the standard mat.
18x24 poster: an 18x24 frame.
Any other size: choose the frame and type in your own mat opening, or order a custom mat board.

You can add a mat to any scalloped frame on the product page. The standard mat has the opening listed above, or you can type in your own opening. Choose from six colours: Warm White, Bright White, Antique White, Ecru, Sand and Pale Laurel. Need a size we do not list? Send us a custom request.
